Originally conceived as an engine behind complete cross-referenced cummunity websites, it is now also used as a general purpose web-site back-end, allowing web-masters to manage the site's content in an easy way.

It is an asset manager, mail robot, payment collector, you name it. The development has been Open Source from the start, and while it has been mainly developed by MediaEtc, many parts of ot are contributed by supporting developers.

This is a good thing, not only because it prevents a vendor lock, it also ensures any application of it, to be future-proof.
